Interactive Poetry Workshop @ One Salon SF

What is poetry? How might we use language to express ourselves without the usual tools of description and narrative? And how might poetry enable us to view the world around us differently? This Tuesday, Halim Madi will lead us in an interactive poetry workshop to help us answer some of these questions. We’ll briefly analyze some groundbreaking poems, learn about a mindset of creativity we can bring to all aspects of our lives, and write some poetry of our own - no experience necessary!

Halim Madi grew up in Beirut, Lebanon, studied in Paris and Toronto, and now lives in San Francisco. He published his first collection of poems in French at age 16, called Ricochets.14 years later he realized poetry brought him joy and started publishing again. In 2019 he asked his friends and coworkers for crowdfunding support and wrote Flight of the Jaguar. He has just published his second book, In the Name of Scandal, a collection of poems about sluthood, the immigrant identity, queerness, and plants that make you see colors.
